Chamomile is one of the oldest and most used flowering plants in ancient medicine and continues to be used today to treat a variety of ailments. It has been known for ages that one of the best way to fall asleep, is to drink a nice glass of warm milk. According to science however, it shown that chamomile may be a better option. This is because it contains an antioxidant called apigenin, which can promote sleepiness and reduce insomnia and other sleep problems.
Two research studies have even confirmed the power of chamomile during the day and at bedtime. In one of these studies, postpartum women who drank chamomile tea for two weeks found better sleep quality than the control group who did not. Another research effort measured how quickly people could fall asleep. These results showed that participants who ingested 270 milligrams of chamomile extract twice a day for 28 days slept for 15 minutes faster than the control. The group that consumes chamomile tea also had significantly fewer sleep disturbances.
2. Keep Your Guts Healthy
Although the following study used rats as subjects, research shows that chamomile can potentially play a beneficial role in digestive health. According to this study, the anti-inflammatory properties of chamomile extract may be able to protect against diarrhea. Additionally, chamomile tea can be an effective way to stop the growth of bacteria in our stomach that contribute to ulcers.
3. Able To Reduce Stress and Anxiety
There are many things that can describe to be relaxing but nothing can beat relaxing by curling up with a good cup of tea. And because of this, it can be said that that chamomile can serve as a stress reliever. Although it lacks the potency of a pharmaceutical drug, long-term use of chamomile has been shown to “significantly” reduce generalized anxiety disorders. In general, chamomile can act almost like a sedative, and many people enjoy tea because it puts them in a calm and relaxed state almost instantly.
4. Boost Up Your Immune System
Vitamin C and Zinc are among the common over-the-counter supplements that people often turn to help avoiding getting sick. While the researchers do admit that more research is needed to prove chamomile’s effect on preventing ailments such as the common cold, existing studies has shown promising results in this area.
A study was made with 14 participants drinking five cups of tea a day for two consecutive weeks. Through that study, the researchers collected daily urine samples and tested their contents before and after consuming the tea. Drinking chamomile resulted in a significant increase in hippurate and glycine levels, both of which are known to increase antibacterial activity. Inhaling steam from a freshly prepared pot of chamomile tea can also relieve symptoms of nasal congestion.
5. Minimizing Menstrual Cramps
This may come as a surprise, especially to readers who have tried every possible over-the-counter treatment to reduce menstrual pain. For people with diabetes, regulating blood sugar can be a matter of life or death. And while chamomile tea will never replace prescription drugs, it is believed that it can prevent a rise in blood sugar. 7. May Be Able To Improve Your Skin
Have you ever wondered why there has been an influx of chamomile cosmetic products? The reason so many manufacturers now include chamomile in their lotions, soaps and creams is because it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent on our skin. This means it may be able to soothe the swelling that bothers us as we get older. The same anti-inflammatory properties can be crucial in restoring skin health after we have sunburn. Before throwing away the used chamomile tea bags, try to cool them down and put them on your eyes. This will not only help with the swelling but can drastically lighten the skin color around the eyes.

Some of the most beneficial antioxidants we need to put into our body are so-called flavones, and chamomile is full of them. Flavones have the potential to lower both blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which, if elevated, can lead to heart disease. The bottom line is it should come as no surprise that tea is so popular with people of all ages. In addition to tasting good, chamomile offers benefits that increase the health of body parts both internally and externally. Consider the fact about how healthy, natural vitamins, supplements, plants, and oils can help guide you on your personal path of improvement.
